Butamirate citrate (brand name: Sinecod) belongs to a group of medicines known as central antitussive drugs. It is used as a cough suppressant. It can also be used for other conditions. It is manufactured by Novartis Consumer Health Sa.

Sinecod comes in various forms such as oral drops, tablets, suspension, and syrup, but is most often available as a syrup.

Composition

Each Sinecod Syrup Contain Butamirate Citrate 7.5mg/5ml (100 ml or 200 ml)

Each sustained-release film-coated tablet contains 50 mg of butamirate citrate.

Oral drops for children 5mg/1ml.

Sinecod Uses

Sinecod is used for the treatment of the following medical conditions;

• Symptomatic Treatment of Cough
• Cough associated with pertussis
• Dry cough
• Cough suppression in pre- and postoperative procedures.

Mechanism Of Action

Butamirate citrate has non-specific anticholinergic and bronchospasmolytic effects that facilitate respiratory function by binding to the center of the cough in the brain. Precautions

• Sinecod is contraindicated in patients with Hypersensitivity or allergy to Butamirate.

Sinecod Dosage

Syrup Dose

• Usual Dose for Children age 3-6 years is 5ml 3 times per day.
• Usual Dose for Children Age 6-12 Years is 10ml times per day.
• Usual Dose For Children age 12 years or more is 15ml 4 Times per day.

Tablets Dose

• The usual Adult dose is 2-3 tab daily at 8- or 12-hr intervals
• Usual Adolescent age more than 12 yr is 1-2 tab daily
• The maximum dose should not exceed 90 mg/day.
• As a modified-release formulation, consider administration of 50 mg, twice or thrice daily.

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you notice. When it’s time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue dosing. Do not use an extra dose to make up for a missed dose. If you miss regular doses, you should set an alarm or have someone from your family call you back. Please consult with your doctor to discuss any changes in your dosage regimen or schedule to make up for lost dosages if you have missed too many doses lately.
